Radio is still the most democratic and trustworthy medium for me. What matters here is how you feel, not how you look. The tone of voice conveys more truth and eloquence than any text. Yes, it's nice to see the person you're talking to, but I also enjoy the theatre of the mind that radio offers — it lets you imagine such a vivid world that no image could ever create.

Radio is a story about the most beautiful songs, the most special relationships, and the most magical early mornings! It's my story about the best workplace in the world since I was 18!

Working in radio was my childhood dream since I was 7 or 8 years old. I used to listen and think how positive and inspiring the people on the radio were, and I was really curious about what it’s like on the other side of the radio receiver. Now that dream has come true! And not just anywhere, but at a radio station where being on air carries great responsibility towards the listeners, who play the most important role here. It's exciting to find that golden middle ground every day — not disturbing those who listen to the radio in the background, while also speaking to and inspiring those who truly listen to every word we say on air. And RADIO SKONTO listeners really do listen — I’m reminded of that every day through their calls and messages to the studio. In my opinion, radio is an inspiring, informative, entertaining, and unifying medium that’s freely accessible to almost everyone!

In the RADIO SKONTO team, I can still be considered the "new one," since I’ve only been here for 8 years. RADIO SKONTO means a lot to me — it’s my opportunity to grow and evolve, to meet important people, and to be part of the music world from the inside. Wherever I go and perform with my music project, I’m unmistakably associated with RADIO SKONTO — and that makes me happy; I treat it with respect. What I enjoy most about working on air is communicating with the listeners — they are truly warm-hearted people. As one listener once said: “A good radio station can’t have bad listeners!” For me, RADIO SKONTO is a great experience.

Even before Latvia regained its independence, DJ and doctor Arvīds Mūrnieks nurtured the idea of a radio station that would feature only the very best of what the world had to offer in the pop and rock genres. He personally assembled the team and invited me to join. I happily said: “Yes, of course!” And so, on December 15, 1993, RADIO SKONTO began broadcasting in Latvia, gradually becoming a source of music and values that truly mattered to listeners. We met, connected, became friends, and continue to engage in conversations built on trust and understanding. This gives each day something more than just a pleasant musical background.

A news editor and presenter gathers and verifies information, conducts interviews, and prepares news for broadcast. Working in news requires quickly grasping a wide range of topics, including the latest local and international developments in politics, daily life, culture, and entertainment.
That’s exactly what I enjoy most in life — a dynamic flow of events, curiosity about what’s happening around me, and the chance to constantly learn something new.
I joined RADIO SKONTO on my “second attempt.” Initially, I was invited to work on the “Morning Program.” After a few years, I received an offer to produce news, which was a bit intimidating since I hadn’t worked in that genre before. Now it feels like the time spent in news has flown by — full of unforgettable moments: oversleeping, bursting into laughter live on air, making slips of the tongue, or getting flustered. In such moments, my colleagues have been an irreplaceable support!
Working in news encourages — even demands — looking at the world from a broader perspective. Fascinating, isn’t it?
